Reading Notes, Week 3, Venus and Psyche, Part B.

Chapter heavily focuses on Venus' hatred of Psyche.
Not much needs to be said of writing style; naturally, it follows through and is very descriptive. What needs attention is the dynamic between Venus and Psyche, and the actions that Venus undertakes.

Anger and hatred can be displayed in different manners, whether it be speech or the actions the characters take.
Venus's actions are horribly violent, especially against a pregnant woman:

"With that she seized her tight by the hair and dragged her inside. The unresisting Psyche was thrust into Venus’ presence. The goddess burst into savage laughter as women do when deeply enraged, beating her round the head and dragging her about by the ear, crying: “So you deign to call on your mother-in-law at last, do you? Or are you here to visit that husband of yours, laid low by your own hand? Don’t you worry, I’ll entertain you as a fine daughter-in-law deserves. Where are those attendants of mine, Anxiety and Sorrow?”

In the case of writing a God, an "anything goes" type of mentality may be used. Gods are Gods, and mortals are mortals mindset. Demonstrate a hierarchy, as well as the personal relationship between characters.
Venus' usage of violence against Psyche, even while she is visibly pregnant. This type of exposure writing, and placing a main character in such a life changing and detrimental scenario can be enticing - in that there is a need to know what happens after.

Just like the previous story, the intention is to further the plot and grab the readers attention.

Violent, dangerous and bloody scenarios are eye catching, along with changing the attitude one might feel for a certain character.

Any action/behavior can do this, but especially negative things can make or break a character.

If one wasn't already angry at Venus, the telling of her negative and violent behavior towards a pregnant Psyche may very well change her perception now.
