Week 4 Lab.

 

So, I decided I'd make a list of TV tropes I found interesting, and want to continue to use in my own writing and/or somehow find a way to implement it in.

1. Conflict, Source:
1. Drives the story, and gives more to it than simply retelling things without incident.
1. Man vs. Man: The problem is another character.
2. Man vs. God/Fate: The problem is destiny, eventuality, fate, or divine will.
2. Designated Victim, Source:
1. A character who always gets in trouble for the sake of the plot.
1. This is definitely going to occur with my retelling of Psyche and Cupid, as the original myth already puts her in that role.
3. Wounded Gazelle Gambit, Source:
1. A person manipulates others by pretending to be a harmed victim.
1. Possibly could be tied with Venus/Aphrodite in Psyche and Cupid myth.
4. Abduction Is Love, Source: Kidnapping your love interest guarantees they'll fall in love with you.
1. This follows the Hades/Persephone myth, but also can be somewhat seen with Ariadne and Theseus before she gets with Dionysus.
5. Artists Are Attractive, Source: Many folks can't help but fall for a poet, painter, musician, etc.
1. Pretty much Orpheus and Eurydice; though this trope for them is more-so seen in the Hadestown adaptation.
1. Assumed to have higher levels of compassion/insight/patience, etc.
6. Belated Love Epiphany, Source: Realizing that you love someone when they're no longer there with you.
1. Psyche and Cupid.
7. Big Fancy Castle, Source: Whether the prince's or the monster's.

8. Body Horror, Source:
1. Horror derived from disturbing disfigurement or alteration of someone's body.
9. Splatter Horror, Source: Scary stories that use explicit blood, gore, and violence for shock factor.
1. Slasher Movie: Sub-genre of horror films, involving some sort of monster or villain hunting down and killing people in incredibly gruesome ways.
10. Dark Fantasy, Source: Darker and edgier sub-genre of fantasy.

The website had hundreds of different tropes, but I chose my top 10, and one's that would fit with the type of stories I'm writing for my storybook.
